The drill is the miner’s tool and a close-range weapon in one. It bites continuously into whatever it touches, and a longer drill bites harder.
Against asteroids it is the fastest way to mine. Against ships it chews through hull as readily, but it has to be touching, so a drill ship closes in and rams. Drills retract while boosting.
